Fran Allen dead at 88

An industry giant who got far too little air time and consideration.

Fran led a team at IBM that pioneered optimization in compilers, including automatic parallelization to feed a convoluted architecture, decades before UNIX or C. Her work represents the road not taken that many, me included, regret.
